What is a cheap place to vacation on the Mississippi coast?

January 16th, 2010 | by admin |

I am looking for a great little place to take my wife and our (soon to be) one year old son on a quick little getaway to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the later part of June. I am a graduate student so we do have a limited budget. Our anniversary and our sons first birthday are within a couple of days of each other and we want to take a little mini-vacation together to the beach. We live in Memphis and want to head south! Anyone have any suggestions? Any links that you might want to add would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’m a native of Biloxi. The place is still trying to recover from Hurricane Katrina. It’s coming back to life, but I’m not sure of the status of some of the parks, and I’m sure you don’t want to spend your entire vacation at the casinos.

You might think about taking a deep sea fishing trip. They usually leave out of Biloxi Small Craft Harbor, or the Gulport Harbor. You could also take a trip to Ship Island. There’s a ferry that will take you there and back, but you’ll want an ice chest for taking goodies with you since there’s no concession on the island (or at least there wasn’t when I went).

Also, if you want to make your budget go farther, you might get some ideas from this article: http://budgettravel.suite101.com/article.cfm/vacationing_on_a_small_budget

I hope you have a nice time.
